Welcome to Horticulture Science

Course Description

Horticulture Science is a hands-on class that focuses on floral design, basic landscape design and greenhouse management.  Students gain experience in floral design (including corsages, basic arrangements, and holiday arrangements), greenhouse management, plant propagation including tissue culture, hydroponics, nursery and landscape management, landscape design and integrated pest managements.   Students will have the opportunity to manage the class floral shop and retail greenhouse.   Students have the opportunity to participate in FFA, a student organization that promotes leadership and technical skills.

Mrs. Tautolo is the teacher and she has been at L'Anse Creuse for six years. Prior to L'Anse Creuse I was in the Peace Corps for four years in Western Samoa working at the Robert Louis Stevenson Gravesite and Gardens. I have also worked for the USEPA, an engineering firm in Hawaii, and teaching Horticulture at Huron High School. I am passionate about my Horticulture program and you can often find me spending extra time after school helping students, working in the greenhouse, or in the flower shop.
