LCHS – North Extracurricular Activities and Clubs 2018
L'Anse Creuse High School North provides opportunities for students to be engaged with students and the community through its 26 club and activity offerings. Most of the clubs are open for grades 9-12 and students can join any time. If you're interested in joining any of the clubs below, please contact the club sponsor through email or by visiting the classroom. Most clubs do not require a commitment and you can try or quit at any time.
Astronomy Club
Time Commitment / Eligibility
2:30 – 3:30 once a week, Fridays, and other times for star parties or field trips.
Procedure for Joining
Come to any meeting.
Description
Students interested in any aspect of Astronomy are welcome to join. We do observing, collaboration with other schools, field trips, and movies.

Bowling Club
Time Commitment / Eligibility
Boys and girls are both eligible, physicals are required to try out, low cost to participate on the team.
Procedure for Joining
Tryouts take place starting the 3rd week of November.
Description
A chance for students interested in bowling to develop their skills and to compete against other schools.

Procedure for Joining
Open to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Payment required for trip.
Description
Students have the opportunity to see government close up in D.C. for seven days with other students from around the United States.

Dance Club

- Any student may try out.
- Physicals are required.
- Duration is May through March.

Tryouts for new season are in May.
Description
Some dance experience required. Will be participating in both football and basketball games.

Description
We exist so that we can make LCN a more comfortable place for every single person, a place where every student feels like he or she is represented and has a voice. We try to lift up different cultures and groups in the school. We have a Black History Month Celebration and are going to try to have an Ethnic Fair this year. If you are interested in either of these events please join!

Drama Club

Meet twice a month in the LGI room or room 212. Must attend at least 1 mtg/mo.

Open to all LCN students.
Description
Develop performance skills, watch/discuss classic films w/emphasis on acting techniques, develop community outreach w/a performance emphasis.

Equestrian Club
Time Commitment / Eligibility
We compete in three meets in Sept. If we qualify there is 1 regional and 1 state competition in Oct. Eligibility – you must own or lease your own horse, have clothing, tack show experience and be able to ride all disciplines.

We compete each year at three meets, against at least 25 other high schools in a variety of different riding events.

Gamer’s Club

Open to all LCN students. An all- inclusive club.
Description
To educate students on LGBT issues, create a safe space for LGBT students and their allies, and to promote acceptance of LGBT students school-wide.

Jazz Band Club

Meets Tuesdays/Thursdays 2:30 – 3:30 from October through Band’s Spring Concert.
Procedure for Joining
Students who play traditional jazz band instruments (Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drum Set) are welcomed to attend.
Description
To expose students at LCN to music of the jazz genre. The students will practice and perform traditional and contemporary jazz music.

Link Crew (Freshman Mentor Program)
Time Commitment / Eligibility
Requires about one hour every three weeks – any junior or senior is eligible to join (can apply at end of junior or sophomore year).
Procedure for Joining
The application window to apply to be a Link Leader opens each year in March. Only current Sophomores and Juniors may apply. Application process with teacher nomination and / or recommendation.
Description
The Link Crew is our freshman transition program, in which we help freshmen adjust and thrive at LCN. Link Leaders are outgoing juniors and seniors who are paired up to mentor a group of approximately 10 freshman for the entire school year. We do events throughout the year such as Freshman Orientation, the Freshman Tailgate and Dance, a second semester assembly, an ice cream social and more.

Make A Difference Club & Key Club

Mu Alpha Theta
Time Commitment / Eligibility
- Previously or currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus or AP Calculus.
- Tutoring 7 times / semester at Math Help Day.
- 4-5 Mandatory Meetings per year

Must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in all mathematics classes taken at LCN.
Description
Goal is to promote an awareness of mathematics in our lives. Also has opportunities to earn community service hours.

National Art Honor Society

Meet the third Thursday of the month at 2:30 pm in Room 140.
Procedure for Joining
Must maintain the grades and GPA required. Applications due by October 6, 2017.
Description
To inspire and recognize students who show an interest in art. NAHS provides high standards in art scholarship, character, service, bringing art education to the attention of LCN.

National Honor Society
Applications are available in Room 206
The application consists of the following pieces:
- Application of student accomplishments
- Three teacher evaluations
- Two extracurricular activity forms (one activity must be a school sponsored activity)
Members or our group are very active and must complete 18 hours of NHS activities per year. We participate in many activities such as after school tutoring, helping community organizations, and fund raising for scholarships.
Students are encouraged to take their time and to complete these applications to the best of their ability. Information in these packets is what will be used to determine those eligible for NHS membership.
Time Commitment / Eligibility
Sophomores and juniors who have a 3.3 GPA or higher are eligible to apply in February for membership for the following year. Must be involved with at least one other school sponsored sport, club, or activity.

Applications are mailed in February to all sophomores and juniors who have a 3.3 GPA or above.

The North Star is the official student publication of L'Anse Creuse High School - North. As an extension of the journalism department, it is written, edited, and designed by students. Subscriptions are packaged with The Quest Yearbook.
Time Commitment / Eligibility
Must have previously taken Journalism class in your 9th, 10th or 11th grade year.
Procedure for Joining
Journalism pre- requisite with permission from publications adviser.
Description
The North Star is an 8-page newspaper written and designed by students for students six times per year. The Quest yearbook is almost 300 pages and is conceived, written, and designed by students. It comes out in June.

Description

STATIC Christian Club

Open to all students.
Description
STATIC – “Students Taking Action Together In Christ.” We are affiliated with the regional Youth for Christ chapter. Students can connect with students who share their faith. It’s a fun and safe place for sharing the support, plus learning about God’s love and current events through a biblical perspective.

Student Council
Time Commitment / Eligibility
Student councils are elected representatives of the student body that help with school activities and events. There are monthly meetings both in and out of school, as well as meetings.
Procedure for Joining
Student council elections take place in the spring of each school year.
Description
Students help with school events such as: homecoming, charity drives, blood drives, powderpuff game, snowcoming, staff appreciation events, and the Acada-Me Awards.
