Learning for All Ages
Elementary Level Education
The L'Anse Creuse elementary school program is designed to foster the academic, social, emotional and physical growth and development of our students. Our goal is to prepare every L'Anse Creuse student to be a lifelong learner and critical thinker who will grow to become a productive member of society.
Great care is given by a highly trained and professional staff to provide programs that meet the needs of each child. A developmentally appropriate curriculum enables students to learn and grow to their fullest potential. The L'Anse Creuse elementary program is committed to providing a firm foundation upon which future learning can build. Students are encouraged to develop the competence and confidence needed to continue a successful journey through school.
At present, nine of ten L’Anse Creuse elementary schools (Atwood, Chesterfield, Marie C. Graham, Green, Francis A. Higgins, Emma V. Lobbestael, South River, Tenniswood and Donald J. Yacks) have earned North Central Association (NCA) accreditation. By setting basic standards and by requiring a comprehensive self-study, the NCA stimulates L’Anse Creuse schools toward continuous improvement, providing accountability in action. The NCA is the largest of the country’s regional accrediting agencies. It is a voluntary coalition of more than 8,000 schools and 1,000 colleges and universities in the 19-state region of the central United States. The association works with schools to improve the quality of education through a continuous process of accreditation and evaluation. The NCA currently accredits 1,089 schools in Michigan.
Middle Level Education
L'Anse Creuse middle schools have a rich tradition of excellence throughout the State and Nation. In the early seventies, the district was a leader in implementing the middle school philosophy. Many administrators and staff have held high leadership positions in State and National Middle School Associations.
L'Anse Creuse Middle Schools have hosted two Michigan Association of Middle School Educators (MAMSE) State Conferences, the most recent one in 2002. Three of the four current middle schools, Central, North, and South, have been selected as Michigan Blue Ribbon schools. Central, North, and South have also been chosen as National Blue Ribbon Schools.
L'Anse Creuse Public Schools opened the newest middle school, L'Anse Creuse Middle School - East, in August 2000. In preparation for the opening of this building, the District has spent the last two years revisiting the middle school philosophy. A committee of administrators, staff, parents, and community members investigated many models and programs. In February of 2000, a presentation was made to the Board of Education which recommended full teaming, advocacy, block scheduling, and an extensive exploratory program. These programs will be implemented within the next two to three years.
L'Anse Creuse Middle Schools look forward to the challenges of the new millennium and feel prepared to provide a quality, up-to-date educational program for our students and community.
High Schools / Vocational Training
L'Anse Creuse High School, established in 1957, and L'Anse Creuse High School - North, established in 1975, are dedicated to fostering the academic, social, and physical development of students in grades 9 through 12. A primary goal is to prepare students as lifelong learners and critical thinkers who will be productive, contributing members of society.
Both high schools are accredited by the North Central Association and hold memberships in the National Association of College Admissions Counselors, the College Board, and the College Scholarship Service. By setting standards and requiring a comprehensive self-study, we ensure ongoing improvement and renewal in curriculum, instruction, resources, technology and student environment.
Our curricula are aligned with the State of Michigan guidelines. College preparatory, vocational, and general programs are available. A strong elective course program provides students a variety of opportunities for exploration and intense content focus. Meeting the needs of all learners, program options exist for all student ability and interest levels. The collaborative efforts of high school administrators and teachers have created an articulated district curriculum providing students with many varied learning opportunities. Special education, at-risk coordinators, counselors, and social workers work as a team with and for students.
The high schools offer comprehensive co-curricular and athletic programs which assist in the development of the 'whole' student. Our schools, a social and community nucleus for students, are a hub of daily activity from morning to night. We greatly appreciate and value our positive community relationships. The Service Learning graduation requirement facilitates our students' sense of 'giving back' and ongoing contribution as citizens.
The Pankow Vocational-Technical Center compliments the traditional academic education program with 22 skill based, technology driven and NCA accredited programs for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. The center serves over 1,100 students from L'Anse Creuse Public Schools and 14 additional high schools in Macomb County.
The Pankow Center promotes school-to-work through partnerships with local business and industry where training sites are provided for Co-op, Job Shadowing, Mentoring, Internships and Apprenticeships; all with the added benefit of earning college credit through articulation agreements endorsed by local colleges, universities and technical schools.
Pankow Vocational-Technical programs emphasize the preparation necessary for the transition from school-to-work by introducing students to the importance of employability skills and continuing education beyond high school through college, university or technical schools.
