This course is offered on a “block” schedule (two class periods) for two semesters. In this year-long course, students will learn patient care including anatomy and physiology; compliance, safety, and professional responsibility; infection control; phlebotomy; and EKG. Hands-on activities help students to learn medical skills. Students will earn first aid certification, including the following: American Heart Association (AHA), basic life support (BLS), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED). This course will help students prepare for entry-level positions in health care and explores additional requirements needed for more advanced careers in the medical field. Students must be no more than 12 months from completing their high school graduation to be qualified to earn the credential, which is awarded on a provisional basis until a diploma is issues and verified.
Externship (co-op) eligible program. Student can receive math or science related credit for taking this course.
Career Technical Student Organization: HOSA (Health Occupations Students Association)
Certifications: Pankow 2-year CTE Skill Certificate upon successful completion of program. Other certifications in the medical field are pending.
