Interim Superintendent Dr. John Armstrong
Posted Date: 1/4/2017 3:00 PM

At a Special Board Meeting on December 7, the L’Anse Creuse Public Schools Board of Education appointed Dr. John Armstrong as the interim superintendent effective January 1, 2017. Due to the retirement of Dr. Jackie Johnston, Dr. Armstrong will serve as interim for approximately six months while the Board completes their search for a new superintendent.

Armstrong is a familiar name in L’Anse Creuse, having served the district in several capacities for more than thirty years. He began his career as a teacher at L’Anse Creuse Junior High – Central in 1967. In the years to follow, he held several leadership positions including assistant principal and principal. In 1994, after serving as deputy superintendent of Mount Clemens Community Schools, Dr. Armstrong returned to L’Anse Creuse as superintendent. From 1994 to 2002, he achieved many successes, most notably the passing of two bond campaigns. In 2001, to honor him for his dedication to the district, L’Anse Creuse named the newly constructed auditorium the John Armstrong Performing Arts Center.

“Dr. Armstrong is very well respected throughout the L’Anse Creuse community and we are interested in his perspective on where the district is today,” said Board President Jeff Pegg. “We are happy he will be leading us over the next several months and facilitating a smooth transition between superintendents.”

“It is exciting to come back to a school district that means so much to me,” said Dr. John Armstrong. “I spent thirty years in L’Anse Creuse before and in many ways, this feels like coming home.”
