I am the Learning Support Specialist (LSS) at Donald J. Yacks Elementary School. My position has many roles and responsibilities. One of my roles involves working with classroom teachers, students and parents to improve student learning in the area of literacy: reading, writing and word study.
I graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development with an emphasis in Early Childhood. Upon graduation, I continued my education at Macomb Community College and Wayne State University. At Wayne State I completed my coursework to receive my Elementary Education teaching certificate. After teaching for a few years, I completed more courses to receive my Master’s of Arts in Teaching.
Throughout my teaching career, I have taught several grade levels including preschool, first, second and third grades. I have also taught a looping class, several co-teaching classes and a second and third grade multiage. As you can see, I have a lot of experience working with various ages of elementary children.
On the Yacks webpage there is a Literacy and Math tab to the left that has several resources that can help with your child’s literacy and math development. I will continue to update those sites throughout the year. I have an open door policy and I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions regarding your child’s education.
