Yacks Elementary > Music > Welcome

WELCOME TO THE MUSIC CLASS WEBSITE...

This year at Yacks there will be two Music Teachers--Mrs. vonSchwarz and Mrs. Treece!

Mrs. vonSchwarz will teach classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Mrs. Treece will teach Mrs. Sears' class from 8:10 - 9:00 on Friday.

Your child participates in a music class designed to foster lifelong appreciation of music through active music making.  The sequenced music instruction will help your child develop musical skills and understanding, using music of various styles form the United States and around the world.  In addition to developing specific musical skills, your child's studies in other areas will be enhanced by instruction that links concepts across the curriculum.

If your child is in Fourth or Fifth grade, he/she will be playing recorder.  Also, he/she will be involved in a program, the Fifth Grade Holiday Program or the Spring Program for Fourth Graders.  You will be invited to attend or volunteer to assist with these performances.  Watch this site for more information on these.

You can also reinforce your child's music learning at home.  Consider listening to music together and talking about it.  Ask your child to share songs learned in music class.  If a family member is a music, we always welcome "Guest Artists."  Attend local concerts to help foster appropriate audience behavior.  Have your children check the "For Fun" section of this website for links, activities and extra credit projects.  These experiences will help make music meaningful at school, at home and in the community.

Pictured below is the Fourth Grade Choir performing at the Anna Mae Burdi Child Care Center.  Fun for performers and audience alike!
