Science Olympiad Team makes "three-peat"
On April 12, the Tenniswood Tiger Science Olympiad Team made it a "three-peat" as they finished in first place at the annual district tournament at L’Anse Creuse High School-North. "Science Olympiad is made up of 16 events that closely link to the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks and help students explore the many areas of the sciences," said Colleen Thursam, teacher and Science Olympiad coach along with teachers Megan Bacheldor and Katie Metzger. The teachers began coaching the team in the 2005 season. The Tenniswood team comprises 21 members who have practiced for over four months. "Tenniswood’s success is a direct result of the parents’ commitment and enthusiasm during this season and over the course of the past four years," said Thursam. Tenniswood and the other nine elementary Science Olympiad teams will compete at the county competition at Macomb Community College South Campus May 10. They will compete against 40 schools.
