OUR USED BOOK SALE WAS A HIT!

THANK YOU to all the families who sent in books and to those of you who bought books at the sale.  The Green Team was able to raise the money needed for the Earth Day Fair materials AND our Wildlife Adoption Fee.

THIS YEAR WE ARE ADOPTING A PANDA BEAR!

A special thank you goes to our local Vermicomposter- Ms. Cindy Anthony who was at our Earth Day Fair.  She saw our Ecology Website and brought in a worm farm to Mrs. Hamlin's Class this year!

ECOLOGY

What is ecology anyway?
Ecology is the study of living things and the relationship that they have with the world around them.  So if you are looking at deer and how they use the plants around them to survive, then you are studying ecology!

Ecologists are scientists who study ecology.  They use the scientific method and lots and lots of observations in nature to study how living and non living things interact with each other. Did you know that you could become an ecologist when you grow up?  Go to your local library to find out more about how to become an ecologist.  The link below is an interview with a real ecologist: check it out!

So what about Ecology here at Tenniswood you ask?  Well now that's a Grrreat question!

Tenniswood is going to have its own Ecology Club where students work together with the school and the community to study conserve and preserve our local environment.  If you might be interested in being a member of our Ecology Club here are some questions you might want to ask yourself:

1.  Do I enjoy nature?

2. Do I enjoy planting flowers, vegetables or trees?

3.  Is being a part of the GREEN movement something I am passionate about?

4.  Do I have a special gift or talent for things about nature?

5.  Can I commit my time and my family's time to this Club after school sometimes?

Once you have decided that being a part of our Ecology Team is something you are interested in then email Mrs. Hamlin at hamlimo@lc-ps.org with your parents permission.  Make the subject line say Ecology Club and tell me your name and your teacher's name in the email.

GREEN SCHOOL STATUS!

http://www.michigangreenschools.org/home.html

Last year T e nniswood Elementa ry was recognized by Macomb County as a Green School!  There were 10 out of 20 expectations that we met to reach this status.

This year we were recognized at the next level: EMERALD !  Some of our biggest changes this year was adding to our e-waste recycling, recycling Capri-Sun pouches and Elmer's Glue products.

Our goal for next year is to complete ALL 20 expectations to receive top status: EVERGREEN!
