Behavior Management System
Our classroom behavior management system is based on the South River school-wide “Fish Philosophy”. There are four main principles:
1. Choose you Attitude (you don’t have to like everything that goes on but you have to give it your best effort)
2. Be There (for the teacher and classmates, we should all be respectful)
3. Make Their Day (try to make others feel good about being around you)
4. Play! (school and learning is fun, we can make our work playful if everyone is following the philosophy)
My goal is to foster a learning environment where students are happy and safe, therefore, our only classroom rule is:
“Your actions may not cause a problem for you or anyone else.”
If a student is having difficulty behaving in the classroom, he/she is given a verbal reminder and is redirected away from potential problem situations. If the child continues to have problems after the verbal reminder, he/she will have an opportunity for “recovery time” and a conference with me about how to improve the behavior. If the problem persists, a note or a phone call will be used to notify the parents of the problem.
