WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN, Room 105 and to South River Elementary School! J This year your child will complete one of the most important milestones in his/her life - the first year of school! I understand that you and your child may have met this event with excitement or apprehension (or a little of both) and I hope that this information will help you to know what to expect in kindergarten this year and answer any questions you may have.
Let me begin by telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Ms. Jennifer O’Donovan and this is my tenth year with L’Anse Creuse Public Schools and my fourth year teaching kindergarten (which I LOVE and am VERY excited about!). I have taught first grade previously at Chesterfield and Carkenord, fourth grade at Green and Kindergarten at Yacks & Lobbestael. I am very honored and delighted to be a part of such a tremendous school district, wonderful staff and South River Elementary School.
I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (major in science) and have completed my Master of Education in Early Childhood Education degree at Oakland (2003) as well.
In addition, I have also received my Early Childhood (ZA) Endorsement and have taught abroad for a semester in New Zealand.
I have a gorgeous, beautiful 4-year-old boy, Liam. He is the love of my life and is just an angel! J He fills my world with so much joy and happiness and I love watching him learn new things, explore and grow (Liam is VERY tall for his age)! J Liam loves music, “The Wiggles” and Elmo and can’t wait to come into the classroom and meet all the students as well – he adores watching and interacting with other kids!! J
I can’t wait to share more of my adventures with you throughout the year as well. I also love to travel, watch movies (Discovery Channel), listen to music, play the piano, ski, laugh, shop, go out to eat with family and friends, have fun and TEACH! J I also love animals.
I believe in a hands-on, minds-on approach to learning. Therefore, your child will take on an active learning role within the classroom rather than a passive one. I also believe in establishing a rapport with parents and your most precious possessions – your children, and feel it is extremely important to create an enjoyable, non-threatening environment that is conducive to all the various learning styles and needs of the students in my care. Thus, your child will be participating in many types of activities.
More detailed information in regards to the kindergarten curriculum and classroom procedures is attached or enclosed in your curriculum packet. I am looking forward to a working with your child this year and helping him/her to achieve his/her full potential.
