Mrs. Costa's First Grade
First Grade is a year where there is an increased focus on Reading and Writing. You will notice a large amount of growth in your child throughout the year in all areas! The most thrilling part of my job is being a part of their progress and seeing how much they are growing and changing throughout the year.
A little about me..
I have been a teacher here at South River since Fall 2001. I taught Kindergarten for 4 years and have been teaching First Grade since. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Endorsement from Wayne State University in December 2000. I also received my Master's Degree from Marygrove in December 2003!
I have been married for 10 years and have 3 wonderful children. Their names are Giovanni 6, Antonio 4 and Adriana who just turned 1 at the end of August. They definitely keep me on my toes! We also have a family pet cat named Peaches.
When I am not busy with school and work, our family enjoys going up north, watching movies, playing games and just relaxing with one another.
Literacy Websites
Clifford Interactive Storybooks: Designed for beginning readers, this site has storybooks to read online. Based on the character Clifford the Big Red Dog.
www.starfall.com: This site has a lot to offer; word study and word play as well as beginning reader stories. This is a great website for students needing to work on their letters and sounds, as well.
www.storylineonline.com: This site is wonderful! It has "Stars" reading a story that you are able to watch and listen to. They show the pictures as well as the "star" reading. I use this a lot in my classroom! They really enjoy it!
