Pankow recieves state honors for three of it's classes

Frederick V. Pankow Center Performing Arts Department recently received state honors for three of its classes: TV & Broadcast Media, Acting and Dance.
Seniors Katie S. and Phil H. from the Pankow Center’s TV & Broadcast Media class received second place honors in the state for their public service announcement "Freedom Of Speech." The Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation will present the awards at the 2010 Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference & Expo in Lansing, Mich., March 2-3.
"Katie also won a 2008 MAB award; first place in the PSA category for high school television," said Michael Kaufman, director for performing arts. "This award makes the second for Katie in three years."
In their first year entering the Michigan Thespian Festival, four Frederick V. Pankow Center acting students were chosen among the state’s top 12 finalists to represent the best in the state at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival May 13-15 in Kalamazoo, Mich.  Seniors Kayla ., Michael M. and Bryauna P., and junior Alexis M. were chosen from a state appointed board to represent the best in the state in this festival.  The students performed monologues and scenes for the board in December at the Thespian Festival at Michigan State University, where they earned superior ratings for their performances.  Kirk Erickson is the drama teacher and Troupe Director of the newly formed thespian troupe in L’Anse Creuse.  For more information, contact Erickson at erickki@lc-ps.org.
Pankow dance instructor, Nicole Thuman, and seniors Jessica C., Ashley H., and Rachel M. will represent the best in the state at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival May 13-15 at Western Michigan University. The adjudicators selected their ensemble piece to be performed at the 2010 Michigan Youth Arts Festival Saturday morning Dance Showcase Concert.  For more information, contact Thuman at thumani@lc-ps.org.
The Frederick V. Pankow Center is located at 24600 F. V. Pankow Boulevard.  For more information, contact Kaufman at kaufmmi@lc-ps.org.
