· Is Drama ("Acting 9" / " Acting 10") a full year course or a semester course?
To be in the Performing Arts Program:
§ 9th grade students take Acting 9 and English 9 in a 2-hour block both semesters for a full school year.
§ 10th grade students interested in the Performing Arts program enroll
in Acting 10 and American Literature (10th grade English course) both semesters for a full school year.
· Can a student take both "Choir" and Drama ("Acting " or "Acting 10")?
Yes. There is enough room in a student's 9th or 10th grade schedule to enroll both electives. Choir is taught at the "home" high school as a single elective class. Acting 9 or Acting 10 is schedule into a 2 hour block with English 9 / American Literature at Pankow's Performing Arts program.
· Can a student take both "Dance" and Drama ("Acting 9 / 10")?
It is not recommended that a student do this, simply because of new graduation requirements. For most students, there will not be room in their high school schedule to accommodate both courses at the same time. However, it is possible, and a student should contact their high school counselor to discuss the issues involved in making this choice happen.
· Is "Acting 9 / 10" considered an English credit?
In the L'Anse Creuse district, Acting 9 / 10 is considered an English elective, however, most colleges consider it an elective course. It is recommended that college-bound students take four years of academic English.
· Will "Dance" fulfill the Physical Education requirement?
Yes. Dance will fulfill the 1/2 credit physical education requirement for graduation. However, all students must take a health course as well.
· Is "Dance" a full year course?
No. The Dance course is designed as a one-semester (half year) course. It is taught in a two-hour block in the Pankow Performing Arts program.
It was designed this way so that students will have time to get on the bus to the Pankow Center, change into dance clothing, take their class, and change back into street clothes, and return to their "home" high school on the bus.
· How much dance experience do I need to take "Dance" at the Pankow Center?
For the 2008-2009 school year, "Dance" students are expected to have SOME dance experience. In a typical class, there may be students who have numerous years of training, and students who have a little training. It will be up to the instructor to vary the lessons so that all students are challenged without being overwhelmed.
