Geometry Course Description:
Prerequisite: Invitation by the Math/Science/Technology (MST) Center based on high achievement in 8th grade science, standardized test scores, demonstrated interest and motivation and the recomendation of the 8th grade Algebra I teacher.
This course includes an in-depth study of points, lines and angles, conditional statements, proofs, transformations, triangle congruence, measurement, two- and three-dimensional figures, surface area and volume, coordinate geometry, similarity, logic, trigonometry, vectors and circle relationships. Students will be actively engaged in cooperative groups as they perform investigations and experiments, and analyze, hypothesis, and justify their ideas. As an extension, students will further explore concepts using mathematical software designed to explore relationships dynamically so that students can see change in geometric figures as they manipulate them. Algebraic concepts are integrated into course study when possible.
