MST Biology

Prerequisite: Invitation by the Math/Science/Technology (MST) Center based upon high achievement in 8th grade Science,
standardized test scores, demonstrated interest and motivation as well as the recommendation of the 8th grade Science teacher.
Biology is the introductory science course in L’Anse Creuse high schools. Biology is the study of living things. Students will learn how living things differ from non-living things, what living things must do to stay alive, and how living things interact with each other and the non-living world. MST Biology differs from other high school biology courses by covering more material and in greater detail. Information will be covered at a level approaching community college levels. This course is designed to prepare students for other MST science courses and entry to college or a university. In addition to learning Biology, students will learn to use some
common laboratory equipment and procedures.
**MST Biology at the Pankow Center is designed to move at a faster pace and go into greater detail than Biology at the high schools.

Available only at the Pankow MST Center

The textbook for the course is Biology, A  Guide to the Natural World  3rd edition by David Krogh

If you wish to buy a copy I recommend you search online for a used copy.  Search by ISBN.  There are three versions:

MST AP Biology

Prerequisite: Successful completion of MST Biology and MST Geometry at the Pankow Center and MST Teacher Recommendation. AP Biology is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory biology course. AP Biology will cover the topics regularly covered in a college biology course for majors. The textbook is a college text and the labs being done by AP students are the
equivalent of those done by college students. The two main goals of AP Biology are to help students develop a conceptual framework for modern biology and to help students gain an appreciation of science as a process. Primary emphasis is on
developing an understanding of concepts rather than on memorizing terms and technical details. Essential to this conceptual understanding are the following: a grasp of science as a process rather than as an accumulation of facts; personal experience in scientific inquiry; recognition of unifying theses that integrate the major topics of biology; and application of biological knowledge
and critical thinking to environmental and social concerns. Some AP students, as college freshmen, are permitted to undertake upper-level courses in biology or to register for courses for which biology is a prerequisite. Other students may have fulfilled a basic requirement for a laboratory science course and will be able to undertake other courses to pursue their majors. Completion of this course will prepare students for the AP Biology exam. Students in this class will have 0.5 honor points added to their grade.

Available only at the Pankow MST Center
