TEACHER CADET Course Number 983 11, 12 (1 year program) 2 hour block 2.0 credit / year
Prerequisite: Three Teacher Recommendations and excellent attendance. Students must provide their own transportation to their two teaching internship experiences.
Recommended courses: 2 years English, Math and Science – college bound students pursuing a degree in education. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for those individuals interested in becoming a teacher. As “Teacher Cadets”, students will be prepared and placed in an elementary and middle school classroom. “Teacher Cadets” will work in the classroom with their mentor teacher participating in learning all the different aspects of teaching. The class will consist of lecture, discovery, discussion, simulation, debate, observation, videotaped lessons, role-playing, problem solving, decision making, and a teaching internship experience. The purpose is to expose and educate “Cadets” about learners, schools, and the teaching field. Students will observe and participate in L’Anse Creuse Public School classrooms at the elementary and middle school levels.
COURSE OBJECTIVE: To prepare students to become future public/private school teachers/instructors.
STUDENT OUTCOME: To gain hands on experience and to explore the education field as well as to discover whether teaching is their career path.
CAREER TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION: Future Educators of America.
CERTIFICATION: Pankow 1 year CTE Skills Certification upon successful completion of program.
