PROGRAMMING - COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS Course number 917 Grades 11, 12 2 hour block 2.0 credit / year
Recommended Courses: Two years English, Math and Science
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to provide students with the fundamental understanding of detailed Visual Basic language common to many programming languages. This program will be covering syntax, input/output layout, testing, debugging, documentation with heavy emphasis on problem solving. Student programming will be entered using Microsoft’s Visual Basic. Students will learn to interact with customers, design, interface and write applications that can lead to creating games. Second year provides students with a practical introduction to JAVA programming language. Students will learn how the concepts are used within the JAVA language. Students will code programs using primitive types, basic statements and dynamic data structures using Sun Microsystems JAVA language. This course will fulfill the Computer Literacy requirement for graduation.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: To prepare students with the necessary skills to perform basic programming using Visual Basic and Sun Microsystems JAVA languages.
STUDENT OUTCOME: To acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to program in both Visual Basic and JAVA applications. Preparation for entry-level job skills and / or continuing education at the post-secondary level.

CERTIFICATION: Pankow 2-year CTE Skills Certification upon successful completion of program.
