Horticulture Science
Grades 11, 12 2 hrs. 2.0 credit / year
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Come join the Green Revolution by joining horticulture science. Horticulture Science provides students with a solid foundation in the agricultural and natural resources industries. The program specializes in floral design, greenhouse management, horticulture, environmental education, landscape design, aquaculture (fish production), animal science, and wildlife management. Students will work in the retail floral shop, and greenhouse, which is open to the public. They will also learn how to raise and care for various types of animals, run a working greenhouse for plant productions, identify and treat insects and plant diseases, and become members of the FFA student organization. The FFA will help students learn leadership skills and work closely with their school and community.
EXTERNSHIP (co-op) ELIGIBLE PROGRAM
COURSE OBJECTIVE: To teach each individual how to work in a greenhouse environment, learn how to create basic floral designs, and develop a better understanding of our environment and what can be done to protect it.
STUDENT OUTCOME: Students will learn basic skills, which are needed to pursue a career in the holticulture field.
CAREER TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION: FFA
CERTIFICATIONS: Pankow 2-year CTE Skill Certificate upon successful completion of this program.
