Health Occupations II
Prerequisite: Health Occupations I and good attendance.
Recommended: Seniors concurrently taking anatomy and physiology.
REQUIRED: **Students taking Health Occupations II are REQUIRED to provide their OWN TRANSPORTATION to health care facilities. Students will need to purchase a pair of scrubs for job shadow rotations.
Health Occupations II is a year long course. Students will learn about teamwork, safety, communication, safety, legal issues, employability and information technology as it relates to the field of Health Care. Hands-on activities help students to learn medical skills and renew CPR certification. Students that meet the necessary requirements will be provided with the opportunity to job-shadow multiple health care professionals at various settings in our community. This course will help students prepare for entry-level positions in health care and explores additional requirements needed for more advanced careers in the medical field. Students will need to purchase a pair of scrubs for job shadow rotations.
NOTE: Successful completion of this course fulfills the 2011 high school graduation requirements for a credit in Visual, Performing or Applied Arts. Externship (co-op) eligible program. Student can recieve math or science related credit for taking this course
Course Objective: Students will acquire basic skills needed to pursue entry-level employment in the health care industry, and build a foundation to continue their education for more advanced health occupations. Students will get or renew CPR certification in this course.
Student Outcome: Students will acquire basic skills needed to pursue entry-level employment in the health care industry, and build a foundation to continue their education for more advanced health occupations. Students will observe various health care professionals and understand the various roles of the professional in the health care setting.
Career Technical Student Organization: HOSA (Health Occupations Students Association)
Certifications: Pankow 2-year CTE Skill Certificate upon successful completion of program. Other certifications in the medical field are pending.
