Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center School Curriculum
Academic Classes
Upon entry into the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center School, all students are scheduled into a five or six hour instructional day. Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies make up the core curriculum. Elective classes, which may be assigned, include: Industrial Arts, Physical Education and Sewing.
Testing
A student receives instructions for the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT). This is a tool used in academic classes to help establish the student’s level of abilities. Once skill levels are established, the teacher designs a specific program to meet the student’s needs.
Technology – Up-to-Date Computer Technology is in Each Classroom.
Computers are important teaching tools of today. Many subjects can be provided to a group of students who may all be working at different levels with specialized software programming. Word-processing and publishing software programs are used in many classes to produce research papers, essays, and special projects.
Electives
Physical Education, Sewing, Digitized Sewing and Industrial Arts are electives that are offered to provide a balanced curriculum that meets student needs while being detained at the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center.
Student safety is of the utmost concern in class, therefore, all students are instructed in the safety rules before operating any of the machinery.
