School Program
The Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center School is a unique part of the L’Anse Creuse Public Schools. It is a year-round program conducted within the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center. This program provides the educational services for those students detained.
“Students are assigned to one of the 10 class groupings within 24 hours of their detention. Individual placement and programming targets each student’s needs, and are quickly modified to adjust for changes in these needs. The Juvenile Justice Center School staff has achieved accreditation through the National Correction Education Association. The Juvenile Justice Center School received its initial accreditation through the National Correctional Education Association in 1999.
Teaching Staff, Guidelines and Continuing Education
The Juvenile Justice Center School consists of a professional staff of 16 people who are sensitive to the impact that a stay at the Youth Home has upon students and their families. Teachers are certified by the State of Michigan to work with at-risk students in detention settings. Paraprofessionals work along side many of the teachers to assist in providing a focused educational plan and an instructional setting designed to meet the needs of the student.
Class size follows State of Michigan guidelines for Special Education. Parent-Teacher Conferences are held in the Fall and Spring. Parents are invited to meet their child’s teachers and to visit the classrooms. Parent and teacher informational sharing is an important part of meeting student’s individual needs.
Teacher in-services are held to assure that our staff is kept up-to-date on curriculum changes, behavioral management, and the latest developments in technology software. Many of our staff attend conferences throughout the school year that target their specific area of teaching. Attendance at these in-services and conferences assist our staff to continue to grow professionally, and to bring that growth to the classroom.. Additionally, staff training is conducted in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through Macomb County programs.
