About Ms. Kimball:
I am entering my 5th year of teaching at Middle School North. I am currently teaching all 8th grade physical education, health education, and sport activity class. I am also the girls head track coach.
I earned my undergraduate degree in education from Eastern Michigan University. As an undergraduate student I was a pole vaulting athlete on the women's track team as well as a rower on the crew team. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University's Honors program in 2004 and earned the Physical Education Major of the Year Award, along with the Health Education Major of the Year Award. I was also the National Association of Sport and Physical Education award recipient from Eastern Michigan University.
This summer I worked at Troy Beaumont Hospital where I worked with cardiac rehabilitation patients prescribing and monitoring exercise along with administoring stress tests. Upon completing those clinical hours I have completed my Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from Eastern Michigan University. I plan on pursuing a specialist degree or doctoral degree in the near future.
In my free time (especially in the summer) I train for triathlons. I usually do 4-5 triathlons a summer, but because of my work at the hospital my training time was limited. I did compete in two sprint triathlons though, and did pretty well considering I only trained 3x's a week as oppose to my normal 6x's a week! Next summer I will not be working and hope to complete a Half-Ironman Triathlon (1.2mile swim/56mile bike/13.1mile run).
This summer I adopted a 2 year old labradoodle, Nickel. He is a great dog, and my new running partner. He has run up to 3.5miles with me at a time, but with the summer heat he can't usually go more than 2 miles at a time without taking a break.
PE/Health Class
If you look at your schedule you will see that you have PE/Health for one semester of the school year. This is the class where you will be required to learn of various health topics in the class room. You will also be spending two days a week in the fitness lab in this course.
Sport Activity Class
This class does not have health education requirements. If you are scheduled to take this course you will be physically active every day of the semester!
Expectations are very high for the 8th graders in physical education here at Middle School North. You will leave this school with the skills and knowledge to set up your own fitness program based on goals and your current fitness level. You will also learn how to self-assess your fitness level so that you can set relaistic fitness goals. Triathlon Results from 2008:
