Social Studies
Suggested Materials:
-2 pocket folder for Social Studies only
- notebook
- blue or black pens (no other colors accepted for assignments)
- pencils
- colored pencils, markers, or crayons
- highlighters (any color)

Topics in 8th Grade Social Studies:
American History from 1763 - 1900:
- Causes and effects of the American Revolution
- Confederation and Constitutional Era
- the New Nation
- the Jeffersonian Era
- the growth of the nation
- the Jacksonian Era
- Manifest Destiny/Westward Expansion
- Culture and Reform Movements
- The American Civil War
- Reconstruction
...and if that's not enough...also:
- current events
- economics
- Core Democratic Values
...in addition -- skills we will focus on:
- pulling key information from informational text
- note taking
- studying for and taking tests
- organization of large projects (both individual and group)

- October of the 9th grade year
- Covers any and all topics/concepts taught from 6th - 8th grade
