Glio-Blastoff 5K Fun Run
Meghan Kimball, a physical education teacher at L’Anse Creuse Middle School North, organized the fifth annual Glio-Blastoff 5K Fun Run/Walk on the campus of Eastern Michigan University May 10. The event raised money for cancer research, specifically brain cancer. Kimball organized her first 5K Fun Run when her mother was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2004, and died later that year. Just last week, a co-worker at Middle School North passed away due to brain cancer. Over 350 people took part in the event, including a group of Kimball’s colleagues from her school. Kimball receives support from the Exercise Science Student Organization (ESO) at EMU each year. Over the last four years, the run has raised more than $20,000 for the American Brain Tumor Association. The unofficial total for this year’s event is $11,529.63. Through our donations to the American Brain Tumor Association, hopefully others will have a better chance of survival, added Kimball. “I am passionate about this event because I believe the person I am today is the result of my mother she did a good job raising me, said Kimball, who holds the event each Mother’s Day weekend. “This is my way to show that I love her.
