The U.S. Department of Treasury, in conjunction with the American Bankers Association, will speak to students at L’Anse Creuse Middle School-North and L’Anse Creuse High School-North April 29 in honor of National Teach Children to Save Day.  Mary Kertz, U.S. Treasury, will address the middle school students at 9:30-10:45 a.m. on savings and financial literacy and the high school students in a business law class from 11-11:45 a.m. At 12:15-1:20 p.m., Community Central Bank representatives Suzanne Sikkelee and Eric Haydamack will speak with two economics classes on developing good money management skills.  For more information, contact teacher Dave Hall at 586-493-5270 or at hallda@lc-ps.org.
MACOMB, Mich. The L’Anse Creuse High School-North choirs will head to New York April 30 through May 4 to compete in the highly competitive Heritage Festival, according to Evey Simon, vocal music director.  The 40 students will also perform an hour-long concert at St. Paul’s Church, at a Jewish hospital and a convalescent center.  Two groups, our show choir and our stand-up choir, will also perform at the historic Riverside Church, added Simon.  For more information, contact Simon at 586-493-5270 or at simonev@lc-ps.org.
MACOMB, Mich.  L’Anse Creuse Middle School  North, for the seventh year in a row, will be represented in Lansing May 1 for Law Day.  For 2007-2008, the judges (figuratively, as well as literally) have selected eighth-grader Nicole Zamponi of Chesterfield as the number one essay by an eighth-grader in the entire state! Seventh grader Jennifer Toth of Macomb was judged to be the second best essay in the seventh-grade from around the state.
Each year, the State Bar of Michigan and the Michigan Lawyers’ Auxiliary host an essay contest for Law Day, usually May 1st of each year. Over 1500 sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders submit essays on any one of seven topics chosen for this contest. The State Bar of Michigan and the Michigan Lawyers’ Auxiliary invite the top three essayists in the state in each grade, their parents, teacher, and principal to Lansing each Law Day to read their essays at the State’s Law Day Ceremony in the Hall of Justice Building.
For more information, contact Principal John DaVia at daviajo@lc-ps.org or at 586-493-5260.
