Classroom Policies and Guidelines (6th grade)

 

Dear Parents,

 

            We would like to welcome your student to L’Anse Creuse Middle School East.  We are looking forward to this upcoming school year and hope that it will be exciting, challenging, and enjoyable for your teenager.

            The following pages include the basic class rules and what is expected of the students.  Please keep the rules for reference, then sign and return the participation sheet included.

Possible course activities students may participate in during the school year:

Assessment/Grading:

            In physical education classes, students will be graded on the following rubric.

Positioning

Frequently flat footed, waits for play or is not aware of upcoming plays.

Occasionally uses correct position.  Often waits for play.

Demonstrates correct positioning during the activity.  Anticipates play.

Demonstrates use of strategies during game play while maintaining a high level of intensity.

Skill Mechanics

Avoids using skills.

Occasionally exhibits proper skill mechanics.

Frequently uses proper skill mechanics.

Demonstrates proper skill mechanics consistently.

Rules

Does not adhere to rules.

Occasionally adheres to rules.

Usually adheres to rules.

Adheres to rules on a regular basis.

Team Play

Demonstrates poor sportsmanship and/or teamwork.

Shows little tendency toward sportsmanship and/or teamwork skills.

Cooperates with teammates and demonstrates good sportsmanship.

Organizes teammates toward a positive common goal.

Physical Education Rules and Guidelines

 

  • Be on time – 3 tardies = detention

 

  • Class Dress – Every student must wear appropriate athletic shoes.  Students must follow the school dress code.  Also students must have agenda book with them each day!

 

  • Participation – A student is required to take part in class each day.  3 days of no shoes, a notice will be sent home. 

 

  • Equipment – Respect equipment and others around you.  There is no use of equipment before class without instructor’s permission.  Students are not allowed in equipment room without permission.

 

  • Squads – Each student will be assigned a spot on the floor, this is called their squad location.  From this spot, the following will occur, attendance, warm-up, and directions.

 

  • Locker Room – Students are not allowed to use the locker room at any time.  

 

  • Non-Participation – Students not participating in class activities, must report to their teacher at the beginning of class.  All reasons for not participating in class must be in writing from a parent/doctor.  Any long-term injury must have a written doctors note to return to activity.

 

  • Do Not – Climb bleachers, hang from curtains, basketball rims, nets or supports.  No jewelry, gum, candy, and other food is not allowed.

 

  • Grades – Averaged from the following criteria: 
    • Appropriate Shoes – 20%
    • Participation and Effort - 60%
    • Health - 20%

 

Grading Scale:

 

A+ = + 100%               B+ = 89-88%            C+ = 79-78%            D+ = 69-68%

A = 100-93%                      B =   87-83%                 C =   76-73%            D =   67-63%

A- = 92-90%                     B- =   82-80%                 C -= 72-70%            D -= 62-60%

                                                                                    F =  59-0%
