Welcome to the Web Page of JeanneMarie Rettich
7th grade Social Studies
About the Teacher:
My name is JeanneMarie Rettich. This is my 23rd year of teaching (21 at the middle school level) and I can't imagine doing anything else. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Kevin, for 23 years (although we have been sweethearts for 29 years!). My students all know Mr. Rettich as the "donut guy" since his company sponsors our Student of the Month program.
I have 2 kids by birth - Christopher who is 16 and Ashley who is 11. I have another daughter that is mine by choice (she came to watch my kids and became one of them). Melani is 27 and has recently graduated from Oakland University. Chris is a Junior at High School North and Ashley is a 6th grade student here at MSE.
My bachelor's and first master's degrees are both from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, which is where I lived for the first 20 years of my life.
My second Master's Degree is from Walden University. This degree is a Master's of Science in Education -- Integrating Technology in the Classroom. It is exciting to have learned so much about technology and its uses in the classroom. I actually feel like I might be one step ahead of the kids these days...well maybe!
In addition to being highly qualified to teach social studies according to "No Child Left Behind", I also have 18 years experience teaching English/Reading. I have taught both English and Social Studies in both 7th and 8th grades here at MSE. I also have Special Education Experience.
Aside from being a teacher, I am also a parent here at Middle School East. My daughter Ashley is in 6th grade and is a member of Student Council. She is a competitive dancer as well and is competing with the teen company at her dance studio this year.
My son Chris (a former MSE student) is busy with Student Council, National Honor Society, and Catholic Youth Council. He is active in the community and has over 400 hours of community service logged so far.
I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling whenever we get the chance. My favorite places to travel to are Mackinac Island, MI (where no cars are allowed--only horses and bicycles...very relaxing!) and Indian Shores, Florida (where my husband and I own a condo that we hope to retire to some day).
