Grading:
Student's grades are weighted, meaning their overall grade is based on their performance in the following categories:
Homework/Classwork: 30%
Tests: 30%
Quizzes: 30%
Participation/Effort: 10%
Homework/Classwork:
Students should expect to receive homework on a consistent basis. Students are expected to record all assignments and daily activities into their Assignment Book (provided). Students are given time in class to begin assignments and ask questions prior to taking it home for homework. Assignments are expected to be completed prior to the beginning of class the next day, unless otherwise indicated.
Quizzes:
Quizzes are generally given every other week and students are notified well in advance of an upcoming quiz.
Tests:
Tests are usually given every three to four weeks or at the conclusion of a unit or chapter. Again, students are notified well in advance.
Participation/Effort:
Participation and Effort marks are usually given twice during a marking period and are determined by a student's participation in class, ability to complete assignments in a timely manner, and upkeep of their Blue Record Sheet (a log of their graded assignments).

In 2007-2008, we began using new textbooks for both the General and Advanced Math classes. These textbooks have many advantageous components and resources that we will use throughout the year. Many of these resources can be accessed at home via the Internet (see link below). In addition, students will have the opportunity to check out CD's, which also contain many resources - including their textbook! No need to take their heavy textbook home if students have a computer at home and choose to check out a CD.
These textbooks are expensive. As we begin our second year using the textbooks, understand that these textbooks are in very good condition. Students are fined if the textbooks are returned in a condition beyond just normal usage. Use of a book cover is recommended.
