Thanks for viewing my web site. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. This is my 35th year teaching at L"Anse Creuse School District and all my years have been in middle school. I began my career at Middle School Central in 1975 (Yes, it is possible I taught parents of my students!) I have taught at each middle school in the district and I am currently teaching 8th grade English at Middle School East.
I graduated from Wayne State University with a bachelors degree in English. I then earned a masters degree at Saginaw Valley University.
I am married and have a 22 year old son who attends Oakland University where he is majoring in business. Being a parent has given me first hand knowledge as to the development and growth of children. Parenting is the most difficult job of all.
Teaching 8th grade is very challenging. It is exciting to know that whatever I "attempt" to teach them, may be useful in high school. There is nothing more satisfying than a student returning to East and telling me I really prepared them for high school!
I believe English is one of the most important subjects in school.(Of course I do!) A student must be able to read effectively and communicate verbally and in written form to be a successful student. I offer many different types of activities and strategies to increase student's skills. I also stress the importance of being organized and self directed. Time management is also a huge problem for middle school students. I introduce strategies that will help them plan their time more effectively and give them the opportunity to lead a balanced life.
An effective English program deals with all aspects of communication. It includes writing, reading, speaking and listening.A quality program, which I believe East offers, incorporates all these skills to assist the students in becoming lifelong learners.
I believe parents play an active role in their child's education. Behind every successful student you will find a parent who checks agenda books, attends school events, contacts teachers, helps with homework and of course makes their child responsible and accountable for their actions. Together we can help all students have a successful educational experience.
