Your child will study the following genre this year:

           Fantasy

          Action and Adventure

                           

In addition to study through novels, your student will use short story,             informational text, projects and mini-lessons to learn:

 

1.     How to read in their independent learning level (called Lexile level)

2.     Various reading strategies to help students become better readers

3.     Various writing strategies to help students become better writers

4.     Grammar and spelling skills

5.     Note-taking Techniques

6.     Story Elements such as plot, theme, characterization, conflict, etc.

7.     How to better read and respond to text.

Your student will always need to read at least 20 minutes per day in their Lexile Level outside of class.  Other homework such as spelling worksheets or studying for tests/quizzes may also be assigned.  Check your student's assignment book daily for homework assignments.
