Parent Information & Class Policies
Welcome to Sixth grade and the Academic Wizards Team. I am Mrs. Kelly Oldham. I will be teaching Math and Advanced Math. I have been teaching over twenty years, at the middle school level. My undergraduate degree is in Math from West Virginia University and my master’s degree is in Administration from Wayne State University. My husband and I have two daughters, Addie and Leah.
Math this year will be challenging and fun. I enjoy math and plan to introduce various fun activities. Our curriculum will include problem solving, fractions, decimals, and number theory. While this may be simple enough most of what we cover are new concepts and some can be quite challenging. Advanced Math will also include fundamental Algebra. Students are expected to know the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It is the best interest of each student to have a good grasp of multiplication facts.

DAILY WORK: (25% of the total grade)
Daily work will consist of assignments from the book or a worksheet. All work assigned will be due next day and checked. Assignments will be accepted one day late with the highest-grade possible being a C. No work will be accepted more than one day late.
It is my goal to facilitate students to become responsible and accountable for their work quality. Students will be allowed the late papers based on the following.
1. First Marking they will have three (3) opportunities to turn in late work.
2. Second Marking they will have two (2) opportunities to turn in late work.
3. Third and Fourth Marking they will have zero (0) opportunities to turn in late work.
4. Any papers turned in after the allocated allowances will receive a grade of 1%.
5. I will record the dates of late assignments for the 1st and 2nd Markings.
QUIZZES: (35% of the total grade)
There will a number of quizzes in each topic we cover. There is usually a study guide/notes and ample time to study for most quizzes but there will be the occasional “pop quiz”.
TESTS: (40% of the total grade)
Tests are very important as they make up 40% of the student’s grade. There will be at least one day review, and ample time to study. Please watch for upcoming tests and help your student study.
HOMEWORK HOTLINE;
Students are expected to keep track of their assignments in their agenda, but in an emergency the Homework Hotline can be called. Also when students are absent it is always possible to call the Homework Hotline for that day’s assignment. My Homework Hotline number is 3466.
