Speakers Address Suicide Prevention Week
As the L’Anse Creuse middle schools recognize suicide prevention week Nov. 12-16, L’Anse Creuse Middle School Central invited two speakers to share with students. Glenda Everett, who lost a 14-year-old son to suicide and is a big part of the Michigan Association of Suicidology, will share her personal loss as well as warning signs and what to do to help others Nov. 12 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. to sixth-graders. On Nov. 13 at 8:30-9:30 a.m., Dennis Liegghio, who lost his father to suicide when he was 14 years old, will talk about the path he took after the death and how it affected his life. Seventh- and eighth-graders will learn the warning signs and how to help. Liegghio, chairman of NoResolve.org, a suicide prevention organization, will sing two songs he wrote following his father’s suicide. Liegghio’s band, Student Driver Band, will perform at the Mirage in Clinton Township on Nov. 17 in a benefit to raise money for suicide prevention. In addition, Marquel Eckhout, a sophomore at L’Anse Creuse High School North, will sing a song she wrote when she was in middle school at both events. L’Anse Creuse Middle School Central is located at 38000 Reimold. For more information, contact Diana Conklin at conkldi@lc-ps.org.
