Dear Player and Parents 1-27-10
Greetings I hope you are having an enjoyable and productive 2010 My name is Scott Boice and I am the Head Girls Soccer Coach and a Social Studies Teacher at L’Anse Creuse North. Aaron Pfeil has moved onto new coaching opportunities and we thank him for the last 4 years JV coach. We will be hiring a new coach this winter.
Soccer Background
I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old; and played at North (1990-1993). From there I went to Concordia College, Ann Arbor where I was a four-year starter (1994-1997). While at Concordia I had an opportunity to attend Oak Hill College in London, England for six months. While there I played on their Men’s Soccer Team and won the Division Title. Since college I have served as an instructor at several camps such as Concordia, Macomb Community College, East Detroit, Shelby Township Parks and Rec, and with the Michigan Burn. For the past three years I have run my own camp called the Crusader Soccer Camp. I have had the opportunity to attend several coaching clinics at Indiana University (1999, 2000, and 2001), Notre Dame University (1996, 1998, and 2004), the Michigan High School Coaches Clinic featuring North Carolina Coach Anson Dorrance (2005), the NCAA Division 1 2001 and 2003 Final Four Coaches Symposium in Columbus, Ohio and the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Indianapolis. I’m P.A.C.E. (Program for Athletic Coaches Education) certified through the Michigan High School Athletic Association. I have earned my Coaching Goalkeeping Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. I am licensed coach through the United States Soccer Federation holding a C License (2003). I was the Boys Soccer Head Coach at North from 1999-2008 (assistant in 1998). 4 MAC Titles, 2 District Championships and a Final 8 appearance in 2005. I am entering my 10th season as the Girl’s Head Coach at North.
It is always difficult spending time about yourself, but I wanted to try and answer as many questions about my background, especially for those of you who are new to the program
Now let’s talk about your upcoming involvement in the program here at L’Anse Creuse North
Commitment to Yourself, School and Team
Our preseason is designed (1.) to get yourself ready physically to outperform your opponents on opening day. (2.) It will not guarantee you victory, but it will get you ready to seize the moment when the game is on the line. (3.) It is designed to establish a fitness base, sharpen your skills that have been dormant, learn the system, maximize your recuperation time and take advantage of practice.
We will start conditioning (schedule enclosed) on Monday February 1st. These conditioning sessions are essential to make sure you are fit and they will help you prepare for tryouts. We will also have open field dates available to players who want to work on their own and with others who are trying out. Tryouts start March 15th so getting in shape is very important. I realize this practice schedule sounds difficult. It is not as hard as it sounds and will make you a better player. You can do this! There will be an Athletic Preseason Meeting for all players and parents to attend sometime in March. Official Preseason Practice starts March 15th. THESE PRACTICES ARE MANATORY, WORK IS NOT AN EXCUSE. You are given this in advance so work and vacations can be arranged around team activities, practices and games.
Upcoming Season
Last year we won our 2nd MAC division title. We fell short in districts which ended our bid for a 4th straight District Title. Even though we lost 9 seniors I feel we are still ready to compete for the MAC White Division Title. I challenge each one of you to be committed and ready for the upcoming season not only for yourself but for each other. We must give our all in each game to win the division title. I have included some quotes on the Preseason Schedule, which will represent the type of attitude and team spirit we need to have to be successful.
We will again play in the MAC White Division where we will play Cousino, Fraser, Romeo, Sterling Heights, Utica, and Lakeview. I fully expect this division to be highly competitive. All of these teams have improved. Do not take any team lightly. Some reminders as we near the preseason. All physicals are due as soon as possible. You cannot tryout on March 15th if one is not on file at school. You can pick up a form from Mrs. Rawski’s office. I have included in this packet several clinics you can go to. The medical form in this letter needs to completed and given to me on March 15th. This form will be with coaches at all times in case of emergency. The eligibility form needs to be filled out by March 15th. Rules, Core Values and Parent Conduct sheets are also due at that time. I will take any of these forms prior to March 15th. I have included a game schedule, practice schedule, and a conditioning schedule. At all practices players need to have Soccer Shoes, Running Shoes, and Shin Guards. Make sure you dress appropriately for practice outdoors.
I am looking forward to working with you this coming season. The Girl’s Soccer Team has a web page. Go to www.lc-ps.org and select High School North. Then go to Athletic Department and click on Girl’s Soccer. Some things we might need help with are videotaping games, concession stand, and getting involved with the Athletic Boosters. See you on March 15th.
