Player Parent Letter

Dear Player and Parents,                                                                      June 25, 2008

Greetings, I hope you are having an enjoyable and productive summer.  For those of you who don’t know me my name is Scott Boice and I am the Head Soccer Coach and a Social Studies Teacher at L’Anse Creuse High School North.  Guido DiMambro is the Junior Varsity Coach.

Background

I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old; and played at North (1990-1993).  From there I went to Concordia College, Ann Arbor where I was a four-year starter (1994-1997).  While at Concordia I had an opportunity to attend Oak Hill College in London, England for six months.  While there I played on their Men’s Soccer Team and won the Division Title.  Since college I have served as an instructor at several camps such as Concordia, Macomb Community College, L’Anse Creuse North, Michigan Burn, Eastpointe and Shelby Township.  I have had the opportunity to attend several coaching clinics at Indiana University (1999, 2000, and 2001), Notre Dame University (1996, 1998, and 2004), the Michigan High School Coaches Clinic featuring North Carolina Coach Anson Dorrance (2004) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Indianapolis (2007).  I attended the NCAA Division 1 2001 and 2003 Final Four Coaches Symposium in Columbus, Ohio.  I’m P.A.C.E. (Program for Athletic Coaches Education) certified through the Michigan High School Athletic Association.  I have earned my Coaching Goalkeeping I Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.  I am licensed coach through the United States Soccer Federation holding a C License (2003).  Finally, I have been the Girl’s Varsity Coach for 8 years and I am entering my 11th season with the boy’s program and 10th season as the Boy’s Head Coach at North

It is always difficult spending time talking about yourself, but I wanted to try and answer as many questions about my background, especially for those of you who are new to the program.

Now let’s talk about your upcoming involvement in the program here at L’Anse Creuse North.

Commitment to Yourself, School and Team

Our preseason is designed (1.) to get you ready physically to out perform your opponents on opening day.  (2.) It will not guarantee you victory, but it will get you ready to seize the moment when the game is on the line.  (3.) It is designed to establish a fitness base, sharpen your skills that have been dormant, learn the system, maximize your recuperation time and take advantage of practice.

Our practice/conditioning starts with you.  From July to August you will be responsible for getting yourself in shape, getting touches on the ball and playing as much as you can.  I have provided a schedule for you to follow in this packet.  Returning players will also be holding practices throughout the summer.  They will call you and notify you when they are holding these practices.  Any player who is not already attending a summer camp should be going to the Eastside Soccer Camp at Fraser High School July 27th – July 31st.  (See form in envelope).  Please get this in as soon as possible.  Starting August 4th we will have a week of fitness tests to see what type of shape you are in.  August 11th is the first official day we can practice.  THESE PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY.  WORK IS NOT AN EXCUSE.  THIS INCLUDES METRO BEACH, SCRIMMAGES, AND ANY FUNDRAISERS.  You are given this information well in advance so work and other issues can be arranged around practices and games etc.

Upcoming Season

We are entering our 19th season as a soccer team.  North has won 6 MAC Division titles (1995, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2004 and 2005).  We have won 2 District Titles in 1998 and 2005 finishing as one of the last eight teams in the state making it to the regional final.  We improved last year and started to mature as a team and as players.  The work ethic and ability to play as team in attack and defense must carry over this season.  We will be competing in the MAC White.  To do well in the White and Districts we will need to come into camp fit and ready to leave it all out on the field.

Some reminders as we near the preseason.  All Physicals (enclosed in envelope), Medical Forms, Eligibility Sheets, Rules, Parent Contracts and Core Values are due on August 11th.  I have listed several different clinics you can go to and North is having physicals on Monday August 4th from 4:00pm to 6:30pm.  At all practices players will need to have and wear Soccer Shoes, Running Shoes (not indoor shoes), and Shin Guards.

I have provided a game schedule (rough draft), practice schedule, conditioning schedule etc.  Schedules are always subject to change, but this will help you organize yourself.

Coach DiMambro and I are looking forward to working with you this coming season.  The Boy’s Soccer Team now has a web page.  Go to www.lc-ps.org and select High School North.  Then go to Athletic Department and click on Boy’s Soccer.  Some things we might need help with are getting involved with the Athletic Boosters.  See you on August 4th.
