Advanced Placement Art History

AP Art History

AP Art History is a Full year/Two semester class covering the History of Art in the Western World from Prehistoric to Contemporary times. Our objective is to study and learn about Art, Artists, specific artworks, as well as the Culture in which the work was produced.

Covering such a tremendous amount of information takes dedication on the part of the student as well as the teacher. Art History is a fascinating way to study Cultures through the Art and Artists they have produced… and can be an inspiration to the Academic and Art Student alike…

TEXTS:
Living with Art, 3rd Edition, Rita Gilbert

Janson History of Art, 5th Edition, H.W. Janson

Art Beyond the West, 2nd ed.,Kampen ORielly

All texts are used for this course, although Janson’s History of Art is the primary text used.

NOTEBOOKS & NOTES:

· Students should have a 2 to 3” three-ring binder, paper, and a pen in class daily
· Reading, taking notes and doing required homework is a necessity for the student to be successful in the class
· Students must stay organized/ a Binder is Mandatory!

ASSESSMENT:

Grades will be determined through various Assignments, Notes, Study Guides, Essays, Class participation, Quizzes, Unit tests and semester Final Exams. Emphasis is on timely completion of homework assignments!

It is important to listen in class, take notes, participate, and keep up with reading assignments. We will work together on our writing about Art skills with Rubrics and Practice.

CHICAGO TRIP:

Our Annual Chicago Trip will be planned for November. Although it is not required to pass the class, it is truly an inspiring and educational trip for the student. We plan to visit the major Art museums, take an Architecture Tour and see a performance one evening. This kind of experience brings the content of the course ALIVE and reinforces and enriches the knowledge learned in the classroom. MORE INFORMATION will be given to students by the beginning of the 2007-2008 School year in August.…
