Drawing
Sketchbooks:
Sketchbooks are required for the working procedures of this class. Students are expected to complete weekly homework assignments, in class exercises, vocabulary notes or sketches in their sketchbooks. Periodically, sketchbooks will be checked, assignments reviewed and a grade for the use of the sketchbook will be given. Most outside assignments are given as extra credit opportunities.
Students will be exposed to many approaches to the Drawing Process. These will include Contour, Gesture, Sketching from a model, the Still Life and Direct Observation of the environment around them.
Students will work on and learn to consider the Elements of Art and Learn to plan & develop compositions with a greater understanding of how to use them in their Artwork.
Students will also be exposed to and use many different drawing materials, such as graphite,
ink, charcoal, conte' crayon, etc. Time will be given in each exercise to practice skill in use of materials and techniques which will result in individual growth of each student's Drawing abilities.
Grading:
* All assignments are graded according to set Rubics and are determined by the nature of the assignments. * For example: Still Life/ Value Range/ Pencil Drawing These will have a grade for Composition (100 pts.) Value Range (100 pts.) Pencil Technique & Workmanship (100 pts.) and last but not least Use of Class Time (100 pts.).
* In Contour Drawing Unit the use of class time is weighted more heavily.
* If a student is using his/her class time efficiently, there will be no problem in completing the assigned class work.
* Every Student is expected to participate in Oral Critiques, use their time wisely, develop disciplined work habits and to complete each assignment in a timely manner.
* A written Type IV Paper will be completed by every student in keeping with LCHS writing across the curriculum goal.
* Students are expected to treat fellow students with consideration and respect.
