The L'Anse Creuse High School Bands Music Theory Program has students selected as winners in the Michigan Young Composers Honors Concert four times since 2004.

Russell S. Hilton is in his Twenty-second year as a music educator and has been at L’Anse Creuse High School since 2002.  He co-directs the Marching Lancers, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Symphony Band , the Freshmen Bands, Jazz Blue, and AP Music Theory at L’Anse Creuse High School as well as administrating all aspects of the program. He has also taught in the Montrose, Hartford and Roseville school districts.  His bands have consistently been successful at festivals and competitions at each district throughout his career.  Mr. Hilton has been recognized by “Who’s Who” and was designated as the “Teacher that Makes a Difference” by the student school board each of the four years he conducted the Roseville High School Bands.  He was the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) District XVI Teacher of the Year in 2009 and was a top three finalist for the MSBOA State Teacher of the Year in 2010. Mr. Hilton holds memberships in the Michigan School  Band and Orchestra Association, The Music Educator’s National Conference, The National Band Association and is currently the Secretary of the Michigan Chapter of the American School Band Directors Association.

 

Mr. Hilton completed a Bachelor of Music Education in 1988 and a Master of Music in 1989 from Michigan State University and is currently in the process of completing his Doctorate in Music Education through Boston University.  He has been contracted as a music arranger and visual designer for high school and university marching groups from around the country.   Mr. Hilton’s career is made complete through the support of his wife of eighteen years, Mary, and children, Madeline, Cory and Jonathon.
