Daily Points of Light Award

 

George M., a senior from L’Anse Creuse High School, was chosen as Daily Point of Light Number 3804 for Sept. 2, 2008.  The Daily Points of Light Award recognizes and calls public attention to contributions that individuals make toward solving serious social problems. 

George initiated a project called “Valentines for Vets Video” featuring a program where ninth-grade students write letters to veterans for Valentines Day.  The film followed ninth-graders delivering the letters and visiting with veterans at the VA Hospital in Detroit in 2006.  In addition, George interviewed a L’Anse Creuse alumnus who fought in Vietnam and documented that in the film.  “The impact of this project continues as all of our new 430 ninth-grade students, as well as all future students, have the opportunity to view this video as they begin working on their letters,” said Ann Hart, community service-learning coordinator, who nominated Mikla.
