Fifth Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta
On April 9, approximately 300 physics students from L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township and Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights will participate in the Fifth Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at the L’Anse Creuse High School pool at 7 p.m. The purpose of the regatta is to use the laws of physics to design and construct a boat entirely out of cardboard that can be paddled by two students across the pool and back. “The Cardboard Boat Regatta is the highlight of our physics program. Our students have worked very hard all year with paper, pencil and calculators. This event, however, gives students an opportunity to see how physics is applied in the real world. You really have to trust the laws of physics to step into a boat made of cardboard! And if the boat sinks, well, that just adds to the fun! said Rhonda Diliberti, physics teacher. Boats will be in the L’Anse Creuse High School parking lot for judging from 5-7 p.m. and the regatta will be from 7-9 p.m. L’Anse Creuse High School is located at 38495 L’Anse Creuse Road in Harrison Township.
