LCHS senior accepted to U. S. Naval Academy
L’Anse Creuse High School senior Luke S. has been accepted to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., for the 2012 school year. Stocking received letters of recommendation, after grueling interviews, from Senator Debbie Stabenow and Representative Candice Miller.
Candidates for the Naval Academy are chosen based on their academic success and involvement in athletics and extra-curricular activities. In addition, candidates much also pass a Department of Defense medical examination.
Luke, a U.S. Naval Sea Cadet since 11 years old, wants to pursue aeronautics and fly fighter jets upon graduation. Stocking recounted how he was so impressed with the Blue Angels visit to Selfridge Air National Guard Base’s air show when he was 9, that he knew he wanted to do that for a career.
“After two years of education, they ask if you want to continue at the school,” Luke said. “If so, then you sign an agreement which states you will serve for five years after graduation. I’m planning to make this a career,” he added.
L’Anse Creuse High School is located at 38495 L’Anse Creuse Road. For information, contact Principal Stephen Czapski at czapsst@lc-ps.org.
