Higgins Garden Club
Check it out!!!! The students have developed this garden into a educational experience. In 2001, the garden was developed for Science activities and community service. The garden consist of a perennial, vegetable and butterfly gardens. We also have a Monarch Way Station to help feed the Monarch Butterflies during thier migration from Mexico to Canada!
During the course of the year, students maintain the garden.
Children have the opportunity to work, maintain and harvest the garden. During nice weather, you may find us out by the garden working on our writing or reading.
Not only do we work in the gardens year round, but we also have classes to educate the children on horticulture and agriculture.
Students in grades 2-5 have the opportunity to join the Junior Master Gardening Club that I coordinate. Parents are encouraged to participate in the growth of the garden.
We have been published in the Macomb Dailey as well as some local newspapers for our outstanding work!
These are some of the grants we have won:
$5,000 from Lowe's for an Outdoor Classroom
$788.00 from L'Anse Creuse Foundation Grant for the Monarch Way Station
$500 from the local farmers for a pizza garden
