Mrs. Brenda Baum
Resource Room
Welcome to my webpage! I love my job as a special education teacher at Higgins Elementary. This year I have k-4th grade students on my caseload. I work with students with autism, cognitive impairments and learning disabilities. I am beginning my 29th year of teaching school. Most of my career I have taught in a special education resource room. I did spend 4 years teaching general education grades 2,3,4 and 5. I love the challenge of helping my students succeed.
I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with my B.A.in 1983. My undergraduate degree is in Special Education-Cognitively Impaired and General Education grades k-5. I spent 3 years teaching in the sunny state of South Carolina where I taught in a resource room, grades k-6th. I received my M.A. in 1986 from Francis Marion University in Florence South Carolina. My Master's degree is in Special education- Learning Disabilities. I returned home to Michigan and then began teaching for L'Anse Creuse Public Schools in 1986.
My husband Brian and I have 6 wonderful children together! George-Michael, 23, is in graduate school at Palmer COllege of Chiropractic in Iowa. Stephen, 21 and Amy,18, both attend Macomb County Community College. My 3 terrific step children live with my husband in upstate New York. Heather,27 is a care worker for adults with developmental disabilities. Brian, 24 is a nurse. Paul, 21, works in a restaurant we love to frequent! We loved visiting family and friends in Upstate New York and Missouri this summer.
