Welcome to Mrs. Pritchett's Webpage!
We are off to a great year in 1st Grade! I am very pleased witht he progress that is being made. We are truely growing readers!
During a Restructured Day meeting, the Higgins staff discussed many ways in which we could celebrate reading during the month of March. Mrs. Wrubel was able to reserve a Michigan author, Kelly DiPucchio http://www.kellydipucchio.com/, at the beginning of the month to present to our children. First grade will be focusing on her book Bed Hogs. I encourage you to visit her website and become familiar with her books. At the end of February, our class will decorate our classroom door in honor of her visit.
At the end of January, our chick eggs are going to be deliviered. We will be studying life cycles and using the chick eggs as a hands-on approach to this study. In the Spring, we will hatch butterflies to further connect to the life cycles unit.
The children have also been engrossed in mathematics as we progress through each unit. On the left, you will see a link to EM Games. Every child has a password to get onto this site and practice various math skills. Currently, The Exchange Game (penny, nickel, dime) and Tens-and-Ones Trading Game are the focus games we play in the Computer Lab. This is a fantastic way for your child to enhance math skills at home, as this is the math program that we use during the school day.
In February, we will begin our Bear unit. Please remember to have your child make deposits in their Bear Bank so that we can celebrate together at the end of the month.
