Mrs. Brenda Nicolopoulos
2007-2008
Welcome to my webpage! I love my job as a special education teacher at Higgins Elementary. This year I have k-2nd grade students on my caseload. I work with students with autism, cognitive impairments and learning disabilities. I am beginning my 25th year of teaching school. Most of my career I have taught in a special education resource room. I did spend 4 years teaching general education grades 2,3,4 and 5. I love the challenge of helping my students succeed.
I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with my B.A.in 1983.My undergrad degree was in Special Education- Cognitively Impaired and General Education. I spent 3 years teaching in the sunny state of South Carolina where I taught in a resource room, grades k-6th. I received my M.A. in 1986 from Francis Marion University in Florence South Carolina. My Master's degree was in Special education- Learning Disabilities. I returned home to Michigan and then began teaching for L'Anse Creuse Public Schools in 1986.
I have 3 wonderful children. George-Michael is a sophomore at Grand Valley, Stephen is a junior at Chippewa Valley High School and my daughter Amy is a freshman. We love to travel together as a family. Last summer we took a cruise to Alaska, where we saw whales and bald eagles. It was the trip of a lifetime! We loved visiting family and friends in Upstate New York and Missouri this summer as well.
