The goal of our Physical Education Program at Green Elementary School is to improve each child's individual health/fitness level as well as provide students with a knowledge base to sustain a healthy lifestyle in the future.

Points of emphasis in  Physical Education:

  • Cardiovascular Fitness
  • Importance of Daily Physical Activity
  • Muscular Development
  • Age appropriate cognitive understanding of health related issues
  • Motor Skill Development
  • Flexibility
  • Social Growth (teamwork, problem solving, communication, self esteem)
  • Nutrition
  • Connections to core curriculum (Math, Science, Reading)
  • Incorporating Technology into PE

Fitness Calendar

The Green Elementary fitness calendar is a monthly calendar with a healthy physical activity assigned to each day. These activities are to be done after school (Physical Education Homework). This is an optional activity for all students. Each month a small prize will be given to students that complete a given percentage of days. The goal od the fitness calendar is to promote daily fitness activity.

Pedometers

Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be using pedometers in their Physical Education class. These small devices (worn on student's waists) calculate the number of steps taken, total distance traveled and overall exercise time. Pedometers are a motivating way for students to set goals, improve awareness and increase their amount of daily physical activity. Pedometers are also a great way to monitor student's activity, give teachers and administrators valuable feedback and demonstrate program accountability.
