Distance Learning
Distance Learning has been happening on a small scale at Green for four years. Our school received a Technology Grant from the district to purchase distance learning equipment. The equipment includes two television monitors, two VCRs, a Tandberg unit and other input and output devices which all work together with the support of phone wires to allow video conferencing to take place. Green was the first building in the district with the capabilities of being able to communicate with people in other locations through live audio and video conferencing.
During each broadcast, the entire school has the option of viewing and hearing the presentation through the televisions in the classrooms.
Fortunately, we were able to purchase our own equipment and have daily access to this type of teaching and learning opportunities for the students. Teachers throughtout the building take advantage of the distance learning equipment.
- Third graders visited the Johnson Space Center for a presentation on building the International Space Station. The students viewed modules of what they will be used for experiments.
- Our students/teacher shared a Spanish lesson with students and teacher in West Bloomfield.
- Fifth grade students met and spoke to Christopher Curtis, author of Bud not Buddy, and were able to ask him several questions about his book and being an author.
- Fourth grade students took a virtual field trip to the Museum of Radio and Television located in California to view Picasso's artwork.
- Second grade students visited the Georgia Center for Puppetry Arts to learn about folktales.
