Homework
Homework in second grade helps to teach responsibility. The weekly homework sheet will come home attached to the weekly newsletter each Monday so that students may work ahead if need be. Students should read at home at least 20 minutes per night. Their reading should be recorded in their weekly language arts homework sheet.
Students will also bring home their Scholastic News each Friday. Please practice them over the weekend. This helps students to develop reading fluency. Any other occasional science and social studies homework will have due dates on them.
There will also be required math homelinks each night as well. Students will receive a math homelinks packet each time that we start a new unit in math. I will collect them at the end of the unit. On the weekly homework sheet, I will note which homelinks will be homework that week. Feel free to work a bit ahead if you know that your child will have a busy day the following day. However, math homelinks are due the following morning. We will go over math homelinks each day during math, so it is important that your child has done it previous to math.
If there is a legitimate reason why a student is not able to finish homework, please send me a note signed by a parent on the day the homework is due. Please DO NOT write a note asking for extra time if the reason is due to your child leaving their homework at school.
In order for me to assess your child’s recollection of daily lessons I would like you to please check your child’s homework each night. Use the following code to put a number on the top left of each page/sheet turned in to let me know how much help, if any, you gave your child. ALSO PLEASE INITIAL EACH HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT NEXT TO THE NUMBER to assure me that you have seen their work. This will allow me to see quickly how your child was able to do their homework in order to give them extra help if needed.
How much help did you give your child? 1 – little or no help 2 – some help 3 – a lot of help
