This year, the Mulitage classroom is learning the third grade curriculum in science and social studies.  Here is what your child will learn in these areas this year:

Science:  This year the students will learn about matter, simple machines, weather, and plants.

Social Studies:  The students will learn about the state of Michigan for the entire year. They will learn about the Native Americans that made up the Three Fires, the early explores, the role Michigan played in the Underground Railroad, industry, natural resources, and much more.

Math: Our math program is called Everyday Math.  The third graders will explore multiplication, division, fractions, geometry, learning about different angles, measuring angles with protractors, mapping skills, problem solving, coordinate grids, and various methods for computations.

Reading:  Students work in guided-reading groups according to their individual reading levels; literature circles through book discussions; and an independent reading time.  We set individual goals for each student.

Writing:  Students will learn to write in the genre areas of adventure, realistic fiction, personal narrative, biography, newspaper articles, myth and legends, research reports, and poetry. The students will also be involved in weekly word studies through Month-by-Month Phonics and grammar lessons.
