Students will be using the comprehension strategies listed below throughout the school year. These strategies will help improve students' comprehension skills.
Making Connections:
- Text-to-Self Readers make connections between the text and their own experiences or prior knowledge.
- Text-to-Text Readers make connections between the current text and another text.
- Text-to-World Readers make connections between the text and the world around them.
Questioning: Readers are encouraged to ask questions before, during, and after reading. (Not all questions will be answered)
Visualizing: Readers create mental images of what they are reading.
Inferring: Readers combine what is read with prior knowledge and draw a conclusion.
Determining Importance: Readers know the main ideas/parts of the text.
Synthesizing: The reader brings together information from the text and from personal, world, and literary knowledge to create new understanding.
